"Ms. Vo created a two day series of lessons designed and sequenced for small group instruction. The small groups were created based on review of diagnostic data and identified a need for review and practice of area and perimeter. This two day task was also designed to connect to current math content (multiplying with decimals and using the standard algorithm for multiplication). Lynna’s lessons were designed to review important understandings of area and perimeter using whole numbers and set shapes and then gradually scaffolds to connect to irregular shapes and use of decimal numbers. The context for the tasks designed connected to a real life context that was engaging and realistic for students." - University Supervisor, 2/16/2024

"The student discourse today resulted in productive conversation about the characteristics of quadrilaterals. The vocabulary included in this standard requires students to have understanding of small details used to classify quadrilaterals. The technology sort paired with the discussion with Ms. Vo was helpful to students and showcased student understanding and allowed Ms. Vo to help clarify misunderstandings. - University Supervisor, 4/18/2024

This soccer-themed math challenge is a scaffolded, interactive activity where students solve percentage and fraction problems to advance down the field, pass defenders, and score goals. By incorporating real-world applications and progressive difficulty, the activity promotes engagement, and critical thinking.
This interactive Escape Room Challenge, students work collaboratively to solve puzzles involving solving for x, evaluating expressions, writing expressions, and combining like terms. By completing each challenge, students reinforce key algebraic concepts through problem-solving and teamwork.
This around the world activity had students apply their understanding of percentages to real-world scenarios by calculating discounts, taxes, and tips on various international foods. This engaging, culturally responsive lesson encouraged mathematical reasoning while fostering global awareness and financial literacy.

5th Grade Small Group Instructional Rotations
"Ms. Vo designed a small group lesson to target listening comprehension as it aligns to ELA Literacy.SL.5.2. Ms. Vo consulted with building specialists to select appropriate text for this small group instruction lesson. The students selected for this lesson have previously demonstrated difficulty with this skill. Ms. Vo spent time explaining listening comprehension and used both audio and visual clips to explicitly teach students strategies for listening comprehension and then help students to confirm the use of successful strategies. This was used as a scaffold to listening comprehension tasks that built in complexity. After the lesson we spoke about experimenting with wait time to allow students varying amounts of time with which to think about and share their observations and ideas with the teacher and with peers." - University Supervisor, 2/28/2024

" Ms. Vo planned a lesson on examining evidence in several texts in order to determine whether the information supported the argument of whether chocolate milk should be allowed in school. Students are collecting evidence for both sides of the argument. Ms. Vo shared the learning objective and provided direct instruction for proper annotation, highlighting the evidence as “trash” or “treasure.” Ms. Vo used this instructional time to highlight academic language and model the annotations she wanted the students to use. She followed this direction instruction with an opportunity for students to practice on their own, while she worked with a small group. Ms. Vo has consistently modeled expectations each time I have observed her in the classroom. She reviews procedures, recognizes the positive choices students make, models and reviews expectations, and uses voice and body language and position (standing closer to students when needed, raising or lowering voice to match situations)."- University Supervisor, 3/12/2024

🔬💻⚙️🎨📐 STEAM Grade 2 & 5 Buddies Activity
For a STEAM Night preview activity my 5th grade students had the chance to work with their 2nd grade buddies to explore the student STEAM project gallery. The first day, they toured the various projects, observing the creative and innovative work of their peers and writing about the projects that aligned with each component of STEAM. The following day, we had a fun reading session, where my students and their 2nd grade buddies read STEAM-themed books to each other. I collaborated with the 2nd grade teacher to plan the activity and worked with the library media specialist to gather books about and related to STEAM. It was a great way to build excitement for STEAM Night while encouraging teamwork and learning across grade levels.

This interactive color learning game is prepped when all components are cut, laminated and have velcro or Tack-It glue on the back. The activity helps young children explore colors through a fun and engaging ice cream shop theme. Using ice cream scoops and cones in a variety of colors, children match and sort the scoops, reinforcing their understanding of color identification. This hands-on activity encourages imaginative, creative and dramatic play while fostering both cognitive and fine motor skills.
A toddler exploring a gel sensory bag, an activity designed to stimulate tactile senses and enhance sensory processing. The gel-filled bag includes vibrant pom poms which encourages curiosity and fine motor development as the toddler squeezes, squishes, and explores the different textures and colors. It also provides a calming, sensory-rich experience to support emotional regulation.
This is a veterinary office dramatic play materials set, where children can role-play as veterinarians, and pet owners. The materials help promote imaginative play, language development, and social-emotional skills. This activity allows children to explore empathy, problem-solving, and communication in a playful, hands-on environment.
